How a Father and Daughter Turned a Dream Into a Life-Changing Domiciliary Care Agency

Ten years ago, as a father and daughter we made a decision that would reshape not only our own futures, but the lives of hundreds of people in their community of Liverpool. With a shared belief that everyone deserves dignity, independence, and a life that fulfils their dreams, we decided to work with Apollo Care.

As the father I had worked and loved many roles, supporting individuals for over 48years and Diana had a very caring and loving nature and passion to help others it seemed the best and only decision for us.

Starting With Purpose

In the early days, we started with just a few clients and supported individuals with diverse needs. As time went by, we started to employ many of our amazing carers as are client group increased and our reputation grew with some amazing positive feedback from clients and their families.

After 2 years and due to our reputation, we were given the opportunity to work alongside the amazing Marie Curie team supporting individuals with End-of-Life Care, This has been so rewarding to our team knowing that families and individuals have been supported during their most difficult of times. ,

The Real Reward: Changing Lives

For us, success is never measured in numbers alone. It was in:

• The clients that felt valued and cared for
• The family finally able to rest, knowing their loved had someone truly compassionate by her side.
• The carer who discovered a lifelong vocation after joining the team.
• The countless small moments—warm cups of tea shared, stories listened to, fears eased, smiles returned.
• Taking a client in a hot air ballon
• Getting a client to fulfil a dream of getting back on a bike and doing a full lap around Silverstone
• Taking many clients on trips of their choice
• Also knowing that every single call we make we have the power to make a positive difference to our client,

Ten Years Later: Still Driven by Heart

A decade on, we remain as passionate and caring as the day we started. Apollo Care South Liverpool has evolved, but the mission remains unchanged: to provide care that feels like family, delivered with dignity, respect, and love.

Looking back, the journey hasn’t always been easy. The care sector is challenging, emotional, and ever-changing. But we have never doubted the impact of our work—or the privilege of being part of someone’s life at vulnerable, meaningful moments. For me as dad one of the most rewarding aspects has been seeing my daughter’s passion turned into reality and changing lives.

When we think of care work, we often envisage busy care homes or hospital wards. But there is another kind of care that takes place everyday and that’s homecare—quietly and compassionately in the heart of local communities. Home Care is where care workers support people to remain independent in their own homes.

Being a Support Worker is more than a job. It’s a role built on trust, connection, and the belief that everyone deserves dignity and choice in their daily lives.

A Career Built Around People

Unlike care homes, support workers travel from home to home, meeting people where they feel safest and most comfortable. Every day and everyone’s care can is different. It’s person centred. One morning you might assist someone with a gentle start to their day—helping them wash, dress, and prepare breakfast. Another visit may involve medication support, companionship, mobility assistance, or preparing an evening meal.

Every home and individual is unique it has is culture, and personality. Support staff understand and learn how each person likes their tea, their favourite music, film, and the stories that bring them joy. No two visits are ever the same, and that’s part of what makes the role so special and rewarding.

Many people receiving care at home live alone, which means your visit may be the best part of their day. Sometimes your presence is more valuable than the task itself.

As a Support Worker we become:

It’s Not Always Easy- But it’s Rewarding

Home Care is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also challenging. Support Staff work in all weather conditions, working their way through busy schedules and responding to the changing needs of the people they support. You need resilience, patience, the ability to solve problems when they arise but most of all a warm heart.

As a Support Worker you will experience:

Being a support worker is often described as a calling rather than just a job. Nowhere is this more evident than in the sensitive, sincere work of supporting clients and their families through the endoflife phase. This stage is filled with emotion, vulnerability, and reflection, our team play a crucial role in ensuring dignity, comfort, and compassion is maintained. We are not just there for our clients we provide care and support for their loved ones too.

Empathy and Compassion- It’s not a job it’s who we are

• Listening deeply: Sometimes the most powerful support is simply being present and listening what a client or family member wants to share.
• Respecting individuality: Every individual journey is unique. Our Support Workers respect cultural, spiritual, and personal preferences and choices, whether that means providing a quiet space, preparing their favourite meal, or respecting the religious beliefs.
• Providing reassurance: Families often feel overwhelmed. Our care, support and guidance and clear communication help ease anxieties and gain trust.

Our Working Practices

• Managing comfort: Our Support workers assist with, mobility, skin integrity and daily routines, ensuring clients remain as comfortable as possible.
• Coordinating care: We work in partnership with Marie Curie, District nurses and GP’s ensuring our team is aligned in delivering holistic support.
• Supporting families: We work in accordance with care plans implemented by medical professionals with our support workers helping families navigate the reality of endoflife care.

Emotional and Spiritual Support

• Holding space for grief: Our Team often witness raw emotions. Their calm presence allows families to express sadness, anger, or fear without judgment.
• Celebrating life: Together with clients and their loved ones we share stories, look through photo albums, or listen to their favourite music. It brings moments of joy and connection.
• Respecting silence: Sometimes, the most meaningful support is simply sitting with someone in their final days.

Supporting Families After Their Loved One Has Passed.

Endoflife care doesn’t end with a client’s passing. Our Team often continue to support families by:

• Offering words of comfort and empathy.
• Guiding them toward bereavement services through our Partners – Marie Curie
• Ensuring they feel their loved one’s final days were treated with dignity and respect.

Being a Support Worker in endoflife care is both challenging but extremely rewarding. It requires resilience, empathy, and a deep respect for human dignity. While the role involves practical tasks, its essence lies in compassion—walking beside clients and families during one of life’s most difficult transitions, and ensuring that love, respect, and empathy remain at the heart of care.
